In 2024, I began developing a podcast called Howitt's Played. It's an "Actual-Play" Tabletop Role-playing Game Podcast inspired by Grant Howitt's works. Grant creates a brand new, zany, unique role-playing game every month with one page of rules. The games are all fun, inventive, and easy to pick up and play.
My wife and I always play these games with friends and local actors, and we decided to create a podcast to share our unique gameplay with everyone. The goal for this podcast was to be a friendly guide to listeners to help them learn how to play these games, hear examples of each game being played, and to discuss the genre, mechanics, and best practices for each game to help you best enjoy playing it at home.
HOWITT'S PLAYED LOGO
Since much of this podcast serves as a "how-to" guide, we thought it would be fun to reference the TV show "How It's Made". Conveniently "How it's" Sounds the same as "Howitt's" - so we designed a logo that heavily parodied by the "How It's Made" logo. The logo was also designed simply in order to be overlayed on top of different backgrounds themed after each game so that episodes would be easy to track.
HOWITT'S PLAYED THEME
I worked with a composer to craft a song that was inspired by the "How It's Made" theme but with an adventurous undertone.
Episode Covers
Each episode track has a unique background placed behind the semi-transparent "Howitt's Played" logo. For each episode, I find stock images that capture the spirit of the game we're focusing on, both to clue listeners in on the upcoming tone and context they're about to hear, but also to help them track the gameplay and talkback episodes for each game.
